November 25th to December 4th, 1999 the second violin and bow making competition was held in Paris, France. The instruments and bows submitted in the competition were exhibited for the public at the Musée de la Musique in Paris, France. The string instruments that were awarded the First Grand Prize of the City of Paris were played in concert in the Grand Hall by:
  • Anne-Sophie Mutter - violin
  • Patrice Fontanarosa - violin
  • David Lefèvre - violin
  • Marc Desmons - viola
  • Laurent Verney - viola
  • Walter Grimmer - cello

Rodney entered a bass bow in the competition. Bows entered must have been made entirely by the contestant within the two years prior to the competition. The stick must be made of pernambuco wood. The frog must exclusively be made of ebony and silver. The bows had to be in Paris a month before the competition, therefore Rodney had to ship the bass bow. A signature or any other sign of the maker is not allowed on the bow. There were three prizes for each category. We are pleased to annouce that Rodney D. Mohr received a bronze medal for his bass bow.
