Restoration & Repair

Expert bow restoration has become increasingly more important as the cost of fine French bows increase in value. Rodney Mohr’s state-of-the-art techniques for restoration produce the most thorough and reliable repairs.  It is critical that bow restoration preserve original materials and characteristics.  As the Physician's Oath states:  "First do no harm,"  your repairman's motto should be the same.  Rodney's philosophy of restoration confirms a conservative approach while ensuring the integrity of the bow and preserving its original playing characteristics.

As Co-Director of the Oberlin Bow Restoration Workshop, Rodney has taught many students the fine art of repair and restoration.  He has been a guest instructor at the North Bennett Street School in Boston and has given demonstrations at the Chicago School of Violin Making and Violin Society of America's conventions.
